EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing and has been recommended by the World Health Organization and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies as a treatment for adults and children with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
It helps to reduce the level of distress associated with traumatic memories from the past, which may be triggering for you in the present and making you anxious about the future. It can't change what happened, but it can help the past to feel more like a distant memory rather than horrifying relivings that feel as though they are happening now.
In EMDR therapy, you may feel relieved to know that you don't have to dredge up all the details of memories. It's a body therapy rather than a talk therapy.
It is clinically proven to be useful for many mental health issues, including:
PTSD
Panic Attacks
Anxiety
Depression
Addictions
Grief
Nightmares
Phobias
